Peoples' Plaza, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh
The site is an unused open space within the intersection of three roads. It is located within a predominantly mixed-use neighbourhood, surrounded by two schools, a tutoring centre, commercial shops, and residences. One of these roads is envisioned as an eat street, increasing footfall and establishing the plaza as a prominent city level destination for gathering, celebration, and fostering awareness.

A diagonal pathway, connecting the two schools, is introduced as an extension of the eat street, dividing the plaza into two zones- an event zone and a landscaped sculptural zone. The wider end of the plaza features a landscaped open-air theatre designed to accommodate larger gatherings and social events. At the narrower end, a series of sculptural stone installations of the critically endangered Jerdon’s Courser bird from Kadapa is displayed to raise awareness. The central area is enhanced with sculptural mist poles, which serve as visual markers while mitigating the region’s hot and dry climate, thus giving it an identity and spirit of place.
